Wildcard Video Contest Winners

WILDCARD-WINNERS-ARTICLE-800

Since 2008, kiteboarders from all over the planet have assembled their best footage to submit for the Wind Voyager Triple-S Wildcard Video Contest. Each year, the best wakestyle riders scour their hard drives for the “A+” clips, then hit the water and session their brains out to stack a few last-minute tricks into the edit. Standout riders from kite spots all over the world hold nothing back, showcasing their talent on a wide variety of kicker and slider features. The results are nothing short of mind-blowing, an incredible snapshot of the wakestyle kiteboarding scene.

In total, 19 Wildcard Video Contest entries were submitted (16 men and 3 women), with the top female entry and the top two male entries earning invitations to the 2016 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational. The level of riding was amazing and each and every video makes you excited to hit the water and go ride your local kite park. The Wildcard Video Contest Instructions provided riders with guidelines to build their videos, including key points like “Videos will be judged solely on the quality of riding. Editing and effects will not be taken into consideration”, “Kiteboarding on sliders, kickers, park and/or natural/manmade features should be the focus of your video content”, and “Cable park footage is considered ‘lifestyle’ footage and will not be judged.” Using the guidelines, the Wind Voyager Triple-S Steering Committee muted the music tracks, blacked out any cable or lifestyle clips, and began the difficult task of selecting winners from the awesome pool of entries. Now, we are proud to present to you our 2016 Wildcard Video Contest Winners…

2016 Wind Voyager Triple-S Wildcard Video Contest Winners:

Men’s 1st Place: Chris Bobryk

Chris Bobryk’s video was not only a great fit for the Wildcard Video Contest criteria, but his riding was also next-level with a huge variety of slider and kicker tricks. Chris looks so comfortable on his kiteboard, the way he commits to tricks and his overall approach to riding are a joy to watch. Where some other entries ended early or were rounded out with additional cable or lifestyle footage, Bobryk keeps the pedal to the floor and continues throwing down behind his kite all the way to the end. With multiple impressive inverts and spins off the kickers, and a solid display of rail riding across a nice variety of features, Chris was able to edge-out the competition and claim 1st Place in the Men’s 2016 Wind Voyager Wildcard Video Contest. Chris will now receive an invite to the Invitational division to battle for the Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational crown!

Men’s 2nd Place: Tobias Hölter

With his 2016 Wildcard Video Contest submission, Tobias Hölter solidified his reputation as a technical rail riding master. Clean, stylish rail hits were the highlight of Tobias’s entry, backed up with some solid spins and glides off the kickers. From Russia to Brazil to Cape Hatteras, Tobias made his mark on kite parks around the world in this edit, stomping tricks with speed and putting his best moves on display. As the Men’s Wildcard Video Contest 2nd Place finisher, Tobias will be awarded an invite to the Invitational division, adding to the already stacked field of competitors in the 2016 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational.

Mens’ Runner-Up: Rick Jensen

In this extremely tight contest with so many good Wildcard Video submissions, Rick Jensen landed a close Runner-Up finish with his 2016 Wildcard Video entry. Rick displayed several high-level tricks on the kickers and some solid tech rail riding. His out-of-this-world video showed just how much effort Rick puts into his shots (who else had military jets and floating barbeques in their edit?!). With creativity and dedication like this, we can’t wait to see what Rick has up his sleeve for his future video projects!

Women’s 1st Place: Annelous Lammerts

Wind Voyager Triple-S newcomer Annelous Lammerts won top honors in the Women’s Wildcard Video Contest. With production quality/editing not being part of the judging criteria, Annelous emerged as a clear leader with high-level slides and presses on fairly advanced handrail features. Annelous also displayed some serious skills on kickers, throwing down a broad and stylish array of spins to earn her invite to the main event. Annelous will now receive an invite to the 2016 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational.

Women’s Runner-Up: Julia Castro

Women’s Runner-Up Julia Castro is another new face in the Wind Voyager Triple-S Wildcard Video Contest. Her first-ever Wildcard Video included footage from sessions that were only her second-ever attempt at riding features with a kite! Julia’s video entry contained strong slider riding and a variety of well-executed moves off the kickers, earning her a close Runner-Up finish. We look forward to following Julia’s progression as she continues to push herself riding sliders with her kite!

Congratulations to our winners Chris Bobryk, Tobias Hölter and Annelous Lammerts, who will move on to compete against the world’s best in the 2016 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational! Thank you to all the riders who participated in the 2016 Wildcard Video Contest. We strongly encourage all the riders who hope to compete in the Invitational to register for the 2016 Wind Voyager Triple-S Open, the final qualifier event for the Invitational. The top female rider and the top two male riders from the Open event will progress into the main event, the 2016 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational.
