Video: 2011 Triple-S Session Report #6

Friday, June 10th, the final day of the Triple-S Invitational, saw strong SW winds and a full day (and night!) of action on and off the water. Riders hit the water at 10am for SLICKS freestyle action. This session lasted about 3 hours with riders throwing down every trick in the book in nearly perfect flatwater conditions!

After a quick lunch break, the winds built allowing riders to rig down to 6m-9m kites, to head out and hit the entire REAL Slider Park, all in one run! Riders would start at the top of The Slick and hit the rails in this order: Best Rooftop, JWCF A-Frame, Liquid Force Wallride, REAL Kicker then the REAL Up Flat UP! After the run was completed, they’d work their way back upwind and do it all over again!

The Triple-S Awards Ceremony and Dinner kicked off at 7pm with Mojo’s Sunset Café serving up Prime Rib on the grill, and Dub Island Sound System and The Dubplates winding up the crowd into a dancing boil!
This year’s Triple-S winners saw even more specialization and advancement within each riding discipline, as well as many riders rolling all three SSS dice in hopes of winning the Triple-S Overall Crown. What went down during the last week in Cape Hatteras, truly represents the forefront of our sport. There’s no doubt in anyone’s minds.

***PUSH your riding skills to the next level with the Triple-S Kite Camp with coaches Brandon Scheid, Brian Smith, Jason Slezak, Sam Bell and Eric Rienstra! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride and improve with the best kiteboarders in the world! Don’t miss it…

Triple-S Thursday saw a full day of SURF action down on the southside at Ramp 55/Hatteras Ferry Docks. Kites were flying at 1pm with 12m and then 9m being the call. Cape Hatteras provided the same goods that got it ranked #5 beach in the US this year, with warm Atlantic Ocean water, nice waves and beautiful white sand beaches. No wetsuits and lots of water to keep hydrated was the call for the day!

The level of kitesurf riding has once again taken a quantum leap forward, especially given the average surf conditions we experienced, which can be found on nearly any beach in the world. All the Triple-S riders, guys and girls, were throwing down great waverides, strapless airs and technical transitions. It was definitely a FUN day at the beach!

Mojo Collins and his 5-piece band ROCKED the Kona Sunset Party Thursday Night, followed by the Sunset Swim Charity Runway Event, benefitting Athletes for Cancer and the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. Event supporters were treated to a world-class swimsuit fashion show featuring bikinis from Hurley, Volcom, Billabong as well as custom swimsuits from Sunset Swim organizer Sensi Graves. UK-MC’s Pete Hardie and Toby Diggens kept the crowd thoroughly entertained throughout the Sunset Swim event, then Mojo returned to the stage to blow up the remainder of the evening!

Friday’s schedule looks like SLICKS in the AM then SLICKS and SLIDERS in the PM, followed by the Awards Ceremony and Dinner with Dub Island Sound System!!!!

Wednesday saw solid SW winds and the first day of riding in the 2011 Triple-S Invitational. To maximize the day, we pushed the riders meeting to 9am and hit the water right after that. With all the riders chomping at the bit to ride rails, the decision was made to run a full day of SLIDERS.

The entire REAL Slider Park was set up in The Slick including the 82ft John Wayne Cancer Foundation A-Frame, Best Roof Top, REAL Up Flat Up, REAL Kicker, Best Seat in the House and the Liquid Force Wallride. The wind peaked early from the WSW, then dipped, switched to SW, and pumped again powering up kites in the 6m – 11m range.

The video says it all. The riding level has shot through the roof again, truly showing the leading edge of our sport! HUGE PROPS to all the Triple-S riders who were out on the water KILLING IT from 11am to 9pm yesterday!!! Wednesday night saw a PACKED crowd on the deck and lawn dancing to the Chucktown Throwdown with Mojo’s Sunset Café serving dinner and cold Kona Longboard lagers.

Thursday’s action is headed to the Southside @ Ramp 55 (Ferry Docks) for a full day of SURF with a 20+ SW wind forecast.

Tonight we have the Sunset Swim Charity Runway Event with some beautiful swimsuit models to benefit Athletes for Cancer and the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. Stop by and check out the action!

Tuesday saw some fun glassy surf, followed by more skating and then some insane winching in the boat basin. Dub Island’s Big Hair Dave is DJ’ing Tuesday night 7-11pm while Mojo’s Sunset Café cranks out Taco Tuesday!

The forecast for Wednesday thru Friday looks really solid with SW winds in the 15-25mph range day and night. We’ll be holding the Wednesday riders meeting at 9am under the Red Bull Tent (2 hrs earlier than normal) in order to fit in three sessions a day for the rest of the week.

Don’t miss the Sunset Swim Charity Runway Event on Thursday night benefitting Athletes for Cancer and the John Wayne Cancer Foundation!

Sunday, June 5th was the 2nd day of the 2011 Triple S Invitational. It was a beautiful day with sunshine and warm temps, but unfortunately no wind…

The day got started with the Wilder Brothers playing music for the 2nd annual Triple-S Sunday brunch, a great turnout for some amazing food and tunes. With the wind being light, many of the riders headed to the beach for a day of fun in the sun surfing, fishing, and relaxing.

For the evening session we headed back to REAL Watersports for some winching and wakeboarding in the boat basin well into the night. The forecast is still looking very solid for southwest wind to pick up in the next few days, so stay tuned for some world class kiteboarding action later in the week.

Video: 2011 Triple-S Wildcard Winners

Big THANKS and HUGE RESPECT to all the riders who submitted wildcard videos this year!

This was the most competitive year ever, with wildcard videos coming in from every corner of the planet. Some riders specialized in one or two disciplines, while others showed the entire spectrum of talent in all three: surf, slicks and sliders.

We are stoked to announce the 2011 Triple-S Wildcard winners…..

Niccolo Porcella

Patrick Rebstock

Jake Kelsick

Niccolo Porcella’s video was by far the most comprehensive of the bunch, showing mad skills in surf, slicks and sliders. We haven’t had Nicollo here since the original “Glass Masters” contest in 2002, so we’re stoked to award him a wildcard slot for the 2011 Triple-S Invitational.

Patrick Rebstock’s video was the standout video this year, both with our judges and also with those that chimed in on facebook or the website. Patrick showed unbelievable strapless talent in the surf, with waveriding, tricks and airs. It’s great to see the surf discipline blowing up year after year…..

Jake Kelsick showed a great combination of wakestyle and slider/kicker riding to take the third wildcard. Jake participated in the 2009 Triple-S and was invited to the 2010 event, but was unable to attend due to schedule conflicts. It’s great to have Jake back in the event!

Triple-S Alternate List
Stay tuned, as we will release the “Triple-S Alternate List” on Tuesday, May 17th. The function of this list is to fill any last minute openings caused by injury or inability to make the event. Last year, Brian Smith received his position in the Triple-S thru this channel and ended up with 4th place overall in the entire event!

Thanks again for everyone who participated in the Triple-S Wildcard Video Contest!

The 2011 Triple-S Invitational begins in less than one month: June 4th – 10th, 2011 in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina!
